Cenizas
Thirteen images about the closing of a chapter. Berlin, and the return home.
About the series
The 2nd of October 2014 marked a turning point in David Catá’s life, when he decided to move to Berlin in search of new horizons. This experience inspired his photographic series ‘Cenizas’, made up of 13 images that symbolise the closing of a chapter and a period of personal transition.
The photographs capture the symbolism of ashes, the product of the coal that used to heat his Berlin home as it burned. They represent the disintegration of time, the transience of existence and the end of a stage in life. Though consumed, they leave behind a concentrated essence of strength and hope.
Using his home as a backdrop, Catá shows how, after the fire, the ashes of what once was always remain.
