About the series
Mi piel es tu piel is a photographic and performance project by David Catá about the bond between two brothers. The work starts from a real intervention on the palm of his hand, where an incision lets his brother slip his fingers beneath the skin. For a few moments, both bodies cease to be separate entities and share a single boundary.
The action dialogues with The Incredulity of Saint Thomas, by Caravaggio, in which the apostle puts his finger into the wound of Christ. Here the gesture is reinterpreted from the intimate and the familiar: it is no longer about proving a religious truth, but about making visible a trust built since childhood.
The skin, which usually separates us from the world, becomes a place of encounter. The incision ceases to represent pain and turns into an opening towards the other, where vulnerability becomes trust.
