Ni conmigo ni sin mí

Ni conmigo ni sin mí is a photographic and performance project by David Catá about the contradictory nature of emotional bonds. In a first action he sews photographs of people from his life onto the palm of his hand, physically joining body and image with threads that pierce the skin; the memory thus becomes a tangible presence.

The thread acts at once as union and as tension: what holds the bond is also what pierces the skin. The title alludes to that paradox present in many human relationships, where closeness and distance, care and wound, end up coexisting.

A second part takes the idea to the couple: two hands sewn together with needle and thread, and a video in which both slowly undo the stitches. It is not a violent break, but a conscious process of release: the relationship does not disappear, it simply finds another way to exist.
