A seed germinates beneath the skin of his hand: to grow without renouncing the roots of the origin.
About the series
Raíces aladas is a photographic and performance project by David Catá about personal growth, uprooting and the ability to transform ourselves without renouncing our origins. It was born in 2014, shortly before his move to Berlin, at a time of change when he was leaving the place where he had grown up.
The piece starts from a real intervention on the palm of his hand: after a small incision, he places a seed that germinates until it becomes a living plant. The body ceases to be a support and becomes fertile ground. When the plant is transplanted, its roots remain beneath the skin.
That gesture is the core of the work: the plant can keep growing elsewhere, but the roots stay tied to where it began. To leave does not mean to break with the origin, but to project it towards new territories.
