Villamediana de Iregua

David Catá painted this large-scale mural on the façade of a building in Villamediana de Iregua (La Rioja) for the third edition of Villarte, a street-art festival that turns the town streets into an open-air exhibition and brings contemporary art into everyday life.

The work shows a great hand from which the profile of Villamediana de Iregua emerges. The hand, recurring throughout his work, becomes here a symbol of creation and belonging: the town itself is born from the palm and merges with it, as if the identity of a place were built by those who live in it.

Made specifically for that façade, the mural dialogues with the architecture and the urban surroundings and invites us to look at the territory from a new perspective. Through Villarte, public space becomes a meeting point with contemporary art.
